Adil Abdel Aati was born in 1966 in Atbara, River Nile State, Republic of Sudan. Since relocating to Poland in 1988 he has divided his life between two continents — his hometown of Atbara and the city of Warsaw — a duality that has come to define both his identity and his work.
He currently serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP), a pan-African liberal democratic alliance founded in Casablanca in February 2026; as Chairman of the Diplomacy and Business Foundation in Warsaw; and as adviser to the Sudan of the Future political movement.
Education
Adil received his early education in Atbara before studying Law at the Faculty of Law, Cairo University — Khartoum Branch, now Nilein University (1985–1988). On arriving in Poland he studied Polish Language and Literature at the University of Łódź (1988–1989), followed by Journalism and Political Science at the University of Warsaw (1989–2004) and the Warsaw School of Journalism (2005–2007). He has since complemented this with professional training and certification in IT, finance, business services and leadership.
Professional career
His career spans education, journalism, media, publishing, translation, business services and civil society. He worked in hospitality while studying before moving into teaching (1997–1999). He co-founded Omda International Ltd., serving as Board Member and General Director (1999–2003), then as Vice-Chairman of the Board and General Director of OIA Ltd. (2003–2005). Since 2005 he has been Owner and General Director of Amalia Services. In parallel he has served as an economic analyst and adviser on Poland, Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic States for several Arab embassies in Warsaw. He has held supervisory board positions at Mayfair Capital Polska S.A., HÖHER S.A. and Mayfair Business Services S.A., and serves on the Board of Supervisors of ECONOM Ltd.
Civil society
He was a member of the Sudanese Human Rights Organization’s branch in Poland (1991–1995) and co-founded the Sudanese Human Rights Activists Forum (SHRAF) in 2005. He is Founder and longtime Chairman of the Harambi Foundation in Warsaw, a member of Transparency International since 1999, and served on the interim board of the Human Rights Network Advocacy for Democracy (HAND) from 2011 to 2016. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Free Thought Centre in Wad Medani, Sudan, and has held permanent membership of the International Chapter of the Order of the Smile, based in Świdnica, Poland, since March 2012.
Political work
Adil founded the Sudan Liberal Party, serving as Secretary of Foreign Affairs and later Vice-President (2003–2008). He co-founded the Liberal Democratic Party of Sudan, chairing its Political Council (2010–2014) and serving as Acting President (January 2015 – January 2016), and remains Strategic Adviser to the Party President. He is Patron of the Liberal Youth Forum of the Republic of South Sudan (2010–present). Regionally he served as Vice-Chairman of the Africa Liberal Network with responsibility for the East Africa region (2012–2014), and represented Sudan in the Alliance of Democrats in Rome until its dissolution in 2012.
Writing and publishing
He has published hundreds of articles in Arabic, English and Polish across Sudanese, Arab and Polish media since 1985, covering politics, culture and history. He founded the Atbara.Net portal in 1999 and chairs the Board of Directors of the Sudanyia.Net electronic newspaper (2008–present). As a publisher he has produced numerous books and electronic publications through Amalia Services.
